"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." (Aristotle)

The division of knowledge into disciplines and departments is a division of labor that is supposed to increase expertise and efficiency. But the modern university is no more suited to the postmodern world than industrial modes of production are equipped to meet the demands of electronic reproduction. To shift from the industrial to the post-industrial model for the university is to transform the modern into the postmodern university. The postmodern university will more closely resemble the decentered, disseminated and non-heirarchical "structure" of the net than the centered, segmented and heirarchical structure of the assembly line. In sum, the postmodern university is not a uni-versity but a multi-versity. (from Imagologies)

All men [and women] who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education. (Sir Walter Scott)
