Due Dec. 1, 2
Five to six pages, MLA style citation
Three scholarly sources minimum (not WWW, Encyclopedia,
etc)
This paper should research a topic in Non-Western
Art History
This is a short length for a research paper, so
do not choose too large a topic, which is easy to do if you are
not too familiar with what you are researching.
If you are not sure what kind of topic would be
suitable, talk to me about it early so I can help you narrow one
down.
If you need help with research techniques make
use of the library
resources (staff, handouts), If you aren't sure how to write
a proper research paper, help is available at OASIS.
All elements of the following guidelines are required
for a complete grade
Proposal Due Nov. 10, 11
One page plan (sketch may be included)
Must include bibliographic citation for two sources
(book, journal). One of them may be Smithsonian or Nat'l Geographic,
but not WWW or encyclopedia.
This must be okd by me, it will be
returned the following week with remarks
Finished Piece Due Dec. 1, 2 (you
will take work home again that day)
All work will be presented briefly in class, this
will include information on the art yours is based on, and the process
used in making your piece. A typed summary
of this information (very brief - no more than one page) must be turned
in at this time.
Collaborations between two students will be allowed,
but each collaborators contribution must be equivalent to those working
individually.
This is not about making a flawless masterpiece.
It is about taking care, and doing some research. Sloppy and thoughtless
work will be graded accordingly.
I don't expect you to use completely traditional
methods or mediums in all cases. I do expect you to give the task
of art making the respect you have seen it given in this class.
If you need advice on materials or techniques talk
to me, I can help.
